Event Stability Management Systems
International standard ISO 20121 «Sustainability management systems of measures. Requirements and application guidelines» is designed to ensure a high level of Organization of events by managing economic, environmental and social factors. It is important to understand that the standard sets requirements for the management system for the preparation and conduct of the event, and not for the event itself as such.
ISO 20121 is one of the youngest ISO standards. The catalyst for its development was the holding of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Meanwhile, the standard can be equally applicable to global events, as well as to local and regional events.
Like most ISO standards, ISO 20121 is based on basic approaches and principles (PDCA continuous improvement cycle, system and process approaches, etc.), which ensures a high level of compatibility with the most popular ISO standards, in particular ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
The most vivid examples of the practical application of the standard were the above-mentioned Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, as well as sailing competitions in Great Britain, which are regularly held by the National Sailing Academy of Weymouth and Portland. According to the organizers of the latter, the introduction of the standard allows saving more than 15% of the budget of the event.
Benefits of implementation and certification:
- building an effective and transparent event management system;
- improving the interaction of organizers with the main interested parties in the event;
- reduce the cost of organizing and holding events by optimizing resource usage and selecting the most profitable suppliers;
- reducing carbon dioxide emissions across the entire supply chain;
- creating a positive image of the event and its organizers in the eyes of the public.
