IATF 16949 (formerly ISO/TS 16949, ISO/TU 16949) is an international industry standard as well as a technical specification. The standard defines the requirements for the quality management systems of enterprises engaged in the design, development, production, installation and maintenance of automobile industry products.
The standard sets additional requirements for the quality management systems of organizations of the following profile:
- manufacturers of trucks and cars, buses, motorcycles, trailers and semi-trailers (in this case, the results of marketing
- research of automotive markets can be used as consumer requirements);
- manufacturers and suppliers of components at all levels of the logistics supply chain during the production of the products described above;manufacturers of software included in the products described above;
- organizations that provide design, development, logistics, marketing services, etc. in the production of the products described above;
- organizations that provide car maintenance services.
The standard applies to all organizations in the chain of production and supply of equipment and components of the automotive industry.
In addition, if appropriate, the requirements of this standard can be applied at their discretion by organizations from other sectors of the economy.
Organizations that want recognition of their quality management system can use this standard for independent evaluation. Confirmation of compliance with the requirements of the standard can be a demonstration of compliance with contractual requirements.
