Our company has successfully implemented a project to expertise the environmental management system of leather manufacturers in accordance with the requirements of the LWG protocol (Leather Working Group – an international Group of Leather Manufacturers).
From 08/01/2020, the International Leather Group introduced a ban on the conclusion of contracts for the supply of semi-finished leather products for enterprises that have not passed the LWG audit. In this regard, there was a need to expertise an Environmental Management System in the ULTRA LEATHER group of companies.
Business objectives of the project
The requirements of the LWG (Leather Working Group) are formulated in the LWG Protocol for Manufacturers of leather raw Materials, including requirements for production, waste management, energy use, handling of chemicals and hazardous substances, occupational safety at work, as well as traceability of the entire supply chain.
Therefore, the main objectives of the project were defined:
1) expertise of environmental production requirements at the enterprise in accordance with the Protocol of the International Standard LWG.
2) staff team training;
3) preparation of the company for the LWG and ISO 14001:2015 audit.
4) successfully passed the audit and received the certificate of the LWG Association.
Project implementation
The System Management team conducted a diagnostic audit of the existing management system and infrastructure of the production site. After this stage, an audit report and a list of measures to improve the existing system were provided. The project was implemented in 7 stages.
Project results
1) The project was implemented in 7 stages;
2) 14 days after the implementation of the management system, the company was certified according to ISO 14001:2015 and LWG;
3) 10 days after the certification, contracts were signed with buyers belonging to the LWG circle.
